GREAT BRITAIN. Great Britain - Mexico. Dollar, ND (1804). George III. PCGS Genuine--Tooled, EF Details Gold Shield; Countermark: VF Details.
S-3766; KM-656. Bank of England countermark (the famous "head of a fool on the neck of an ass"); Bust of George III right utilized from the then current 6 Pence within octagonal indent. On a 1800-MoFM Mexico bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII (IV). The countermark was slightly unevenly applied from a worn punch with somewhat rounded corners of the shaped border. Several light pin scratches on the obverse in front of the bust accounts for the details designation. Despite its shortcomings a handsome example displaying rich mottled soft dove gray to slate patina with areas of lighter coloration highlighted by a light iridescent sheen.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
