PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Peru. 8 Reales, 1828. Ferdinand VII. PCGS VF-25 Gold Shield.
KM-24; Basso-35. Issued by decree of 13 October 1828. Type I Manila Overstrike, with serrated boarders and reverse legend; dies prepared by Don Benito de los Reyes. Overstruck on an 1825-LIMAE-JM Peru Republic 8 Reales. A VERY RARE host coin and only the third example we have recorded of the overstrike on a first year Lima issue. It is apparent that this example was struck near the end of these dies usefulness as that strike is quite uneven and shallow indicative of the insufficient die pressure needed to make fully impressed designs onto the host leaving much of the original design elements visible and easily attributable. The obverse exhibits a bold and complete "MANILA" with just a faint outline of the date below while the reverse is missing about half of the arms of Spain with a small portion of the outer legend still intact. This pleasant survivor is presentable and quite wholesome perfect for the collector on a budget looking for interesting pieces to add to their collection.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
