PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1832-34). Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details Gold Shield; Countermark: AU Details.
KM-63; Basso-41; Gil Crown variety-5-4-1-C. Type V Countermark, crowned F.7.0 within circle applied to the obverse of an 1797-Mo FM Mexico Bust 8 Reales of Charles IIII (IV). Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832, officially ending 20 December 1834. A very interesting countermark/host coin combination featuring father and son from the house of Bourbon and as such is highly desirable. Numerous chopmarks on both the obverse and reverse account for the details designation; though the details designation of "Damage" is technically correct a more accurate assessment should be "Chopmarked". The countermark is quite strong with good definition of the devices and is easily attributable perfect for the scholar of the countermark series looking to add intriguing pieces to there collection. Lovely pervasive rich old cabinet patina with an iridescent sheen offers a pleasing appearance and good eye appeal certain to see spirited bidding from many collectors.

Estimate: $1200.00- $1600.00
