PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Chile. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Isabel II. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield; Countermark: AU Details.
KM-108; Basso-43; Gil Crown Variety-5-4-1-II. Type VI Countermark, crowned Y.II. within circle applied to the reverse of an 1834-SANTIAGO IJ Chile Peso. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837, by decree of 1 February 1836. A SCARCE host type for this countermark issue, especially when compared to most Mexican or Peruvian Republic host coins. The countermark is deeply applied and slightly off center with clear definition of the pearl sequence and other fine details on a wholesome host exhibiting signs of handling consistent for the grade. A very attractive survivor displaying lovely rich old cabinet patina with hints of luster in the protected areas offering much originality.
