PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Colombia. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Isabel II. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield; Countermark: EF Details.
KM-109; Basso-43; Gil Crown Variety-Unlisted (5-2-2). Type VI Countermark, crowned Y.II. within circle applied to the obverse of an 1835-Ba RS Colombia 8 Reales. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837, by decree of 1 February 1836. A SCARCE and desirable host type for this countermark issue, especially when compared to the more common Republican issues from Mexico or Peru. The countermark is deep, evenly applied and a touch off center with clear definition of the pearl sequence and cipher. A very attractive survivor displaying rich old cabinet patina displaying a lovely iridescent sheen that pops out when tilted in the light.
