EL SALVADOR. Lot of (4) Banco de Ahuachapán. 1 to 25 Pesos, 189x. P-S121s, S122s, S123s & S125s. Specimens. About Uncirculated.
A quartet of four specimen's from the Banco De Ahuachapán. Included are the 1, 2, 5 & 25 Pesos specimens. Excess selvage is found in the tops of all, with the 1 & 5 Pesos notes having purple stamps in the selvage which read "Apr 1897 Return to E.5. To be held for Reference." The 25 Pesos note has a period annotation of "1 Note Office June 99" in the top left margin.

The 1 Pesos note displays a portrait of F. Morazán at left, with an oxen team pulling a cart at right. The reverse of the note displays an intricate design in dark orange ink.

The 2 Pesos note displays the portrait of Francisco Morazán at center, whom was president of the Federal Republic of Central America from 1830 to 1839. Although he was killed in 1842, his imagery was kept on notes and other items decades later, even into the modern day, to help preserve his legacy as he is still regarded as a "martyr and a symbol of the Republic of Central America."

The 5 Pesos note displays Urania, daughter of Zeus, and the muse of Astronomy in Greek mythology. The reverse of the note is printed in a dark purple ink, with arms at center flanked by two "5" counters.

The 25 Pesos note displays a yellow-green undertint, with an ornate "25" counter at center. People are seen gathering at a watering hole at left, while at right a locomotive is seen releasing steam while the tender is being filled with water. The reverse is printed in a dark green ink, with standing allegorical women at left and right, with arms at center.

This is a good opportunity for the El Salvadorian or ABNC specimen collector to obtain nearly the entire specimen set of Banco De Ahuachapán notes, with just the 10 & 50 Pesos specimens missing from this group. This series was never issued, and are only found in Proof or Specimen forms, with an exception to the 1 Pound note being found in an unsigned remainder form according to the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money, Specialized Issues book. Scarce, and sure to attract spirited bidding.

Estimate: $5000.00- $6000.00
