FRANCE. Societe Nationale des Architectes des France Silver Award Medal, 1903. Paris Mint. UNCIRCULATED.
60.5mm; 95.76 gms. By H. LeBeouf & A. Patey. Presented to Emmanuel Selonier at the 12th annual competition. Obverse: Muse, in attitude of contemplation, seated right on the top of Ionic column; square, compass, open book, and blueprints on ground to right; classically-inspired structures in background; Reverse: SOCIETE / NATIONALE / DES / ARCHITECTES / DE FRANCE in five lines; laurel branch curving around to left; below, decorative cartouche reading "EMMANUEL SELONIER." Edge: (engraved) "12e CONCOURS ANNUEL 1903" and [cornucopia hallmark] ARGENT. Lightly toned and pleasing, with some minor spots and a few scattered marks, but an overall charming and fairly SCARCE Art Nouveau architectural medal.

While little is to be found about this particular award, the recipient, Emmanuel Selonier, is listed in the 1 October 1904 issue of La Construction Lyonnaise regarding the competition from that year (one year after this award medal was presented), in which he placed 4th this time around. His listed age at that time was 23, making him just 22 when he won the present medal being offered.

From the Provence Collection of French Art Medals.

Estimate: $300.00- $500.00
