Cuba Banco Espanol De La Isla De Cuba 1000 Pesos 15.5.1896 Pick 51B PMG Very Fine 30 Net. The Spanish American War ended centuries of Spanish rule in Cuba, and as such, certain Spanish interests also retreated. For example, in 1898, the Spanish Bank of the Island of Cuba closed up, rendering its banknotes unredeemable and worthless at the time. This 1000 Pesos banknote was the highest denomination of the series, and extant examples are very rare today. A small serial number is seen, which confirms that only small batches of this note were likely printed and issued. Insect holes from storage are seen on this circulated example, which has the benefit of its original wide left margin. A rare type that has been offered only a handful of times in the last decade. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/cuba-banco-espanol-de-la-isla-de-cuba-1000-pesos-1551896-pick-51b-pmg-very-fine-30-net/p/4028-31093.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4028 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
