Spain Banco de Espana 100 Pesetas 1.7.1903 Pick 53a PMG Choice Very Fine 35. The issues of 1902-1905 were the first notes from the Bank of Spain that broke a tradition of portraiture on the face. The resulting designs are among the most beautiful in the world, including this 100 pesetas note. On the face are allegorical representations of Industry and Agriculture. The incredible engraving of a man leading Pegasus adorns the entirety of the back. They are flying above Atocha Railway Stations, which had been rebuilt a few years earlier after a destructive fire. Exceedingly rare in issued form, the last example sold at auction was a Very Fine 30 realizing more than $4,500. This piece, by comparison, is worlds better in appearance and one of the finest known surviving pieces, with just one finer example listed in the PMG Population Report. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/spain-banco-de-espana-100-pesetas-171903-pick-53a-pmg-choice-very-fine-35/p/4028-31022.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4028 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
