Othon 5 Drachmai 1833-A MS65 NGC, Paris mint, KM20, Dav-115, Divo-10b (R), Karamitsos-111. Simply put, a series outlier by all metrics. Well-known to Greek collectors as a type that saw heavy circulation as the first of only three dates that this crown was produced, Mint State quality is typically quite out of reach. Standing as a firm gem with a strikingly Prooflike finish washing over the surfaces, the present piece provides even the most scrupulous viewer little grounds for complaint--the surfaces, lightly toned, are filled to the brink with die polish and free of significant marks, the devices are painstakingly executed and the whole of the coin has the feel of a specimen. Easily a candidate for a higher grade, and deemed "one of the prettiest silver crowns in the Pittman Collection" by David Akers.
Ex. Pittman Collection (David Akers August 1999, Lot 4312); Purchased from Capitol Coin Co. (September 1946)
