Frederick III Speciedaler 1660-FG MS63 PCGS, Christiania mint, KM54, Dav-3607, Hede-33B, ABH-84, Thesen-90. Mintage: 18,000. Quite simply an astonishing specimen, and carrying the lowest recorded mintage for this 4-year type (the figures for the 1659 are not mentioned by the Standard Catalog)--a fact which couples with the offering's superior technical preservation to propel it to a level of instant rarity. More often encountered with at least light evidence of circulation and an uneven strike to the legends, the current selection seems to admit none of these forgivable faults, even the usual doubling to the king's portrait keeping to a minimum. A speckling of charcoal tone appears over the obverse, aiding in picking out the finer features of the design and drawing the eye to protected regions of heavily satin texture preserved in the folds of the king's vestments and between the locks of his hair. Easily the finest certified, and a veritable treasure for its future owner.
