Sear 613 (this coin). DOC -. Berk 95 (this coin). MIB -. Extremely rare and likely the only example available to collectors.

From the Penn Collection. Ex Important Private Collection of Byzantine Coins (Sothebys, 2 November 1998), lot 160 (cover coin)

Solidi of Theodosius were unknown until the early 1980s. Harlan Berk notes three total specimens in his work - this example, a second which had been "stolen and possibly melted", and a third which he had not seen and is not noted where it resides. This issue was apparently struck during the reign of Theodosius's father, Maurice Tiberius, while they were nominally ruling jointly, as evidenced by the first indictional year.
