Henry VIII (1509-1547) gold 1/2 Sovereign ND (1544-1547) MS60 NGC, Southwark mint, S mm, Third Coinage, S-2297, N-1828, Schneider-621 var. (reverse legend). 6.12gm. S HENRIC' 8 x D' x G' x AGL' x FRANCI' x Z x [...] B' x REX x (saltire stops), Henry, crowned and mantled, seated facing on ornate throne, globus in left hand, scepter in right; Tudor rose at feet / S x IhS' x AVTЄ' x TRAnSIЄS' x PЄR mЄDI' x ILLOR' x IBAT' x (saltire stops), crowned Tudor shield upheld by two lions, Є below. It almost goes without saying that this type simply does not turn up in Mint State grades, frequently seeing bends, damage to the edges, and outright use in jewelry. While admittedly rather unevenly struck, those features where the dies did find their mark are incredibly handsomely engraved and boldly finished, the whole of the features presented on a full, unclipped planchet. For the sake of accuracy, we note a small scratch to the right of Henry.
