George III gold Proof Pattern Guinea 1761 PR64 PCGS, KM-Pn40, W&R-84 (R4). By Richard Yeo. A sharp selection of this plain-edged pattern issue, noted as an "R4" in Wilson & Rasmussen, pointing to only 11-20 known examples. To call the strike firm is to do the piece injustice, as every feature, including George's more youthful portrait, is expressed in the sharpest achievable relief, with even the minute details of the reverse shield projecting with bold clarity toward the viewer's gaze. The surfaces shimmer alluringly with mild reflectivity and carry a lovely shade of tangerine coloration holding hints of golden iridescence. Light hairlines establish the grade, though these are to be expected for a coin of this age and finish. This offering, the only one of its type that we have seen and the finest certified by PCGS, should serve as a beacon of pride in its future owner's cabinet.
