British India. Victoria gold Proof Restrike 10 Rupees 1870-(c) PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS, Calcutta mint, KM479, S&W-4.16. Mature bust variety without initials on neck. Reeded edge. A notably challenging and highly coveted restrike issue, and one which proves exceptionally fleeting not only in Gem Proof, but even more so with a Deep/Ultra Cameo recognition for heavily mirrored fields and generously frosted devices. Indeed the contrasts produced by this example are captivating, a survey of the census reports at both NGC and PCGS revealing just four specimens of the date awarded with this designation. For comparison, the last that we sold, a PR63, brought $10,200 in as part of our November sale.
