Peter I gold Novodel 2 Ducats (Double Chervonets) 1714 AU58 NGC, Krasny mint, KM-NF4, Fr-86, Bit-H19 (R2), Sev-39 (RR), Diakov-446 (R3). Reeded edge. A lustrous representative of this exceedingly scarce type, whose shimmering brilliance and sharply executed design motifs point very clearly to a condition that is on the cusp of Mint State preservation. Soundly struck and carefully centered on its flan to a far greater extent than are most surviving examples, the fact that such pieces as this likely stem from the time of Catherine the Great likely indicating high collector demand, and hence would likely have served as prestige items for display, leading to many coming prone with post-mint issues. Graced with a honeyed amber tone and produced to a laudable standard, this rare issue is even more rarely seen with such laudable visual appeal, a factor likely considered for its inclusion in the famous numismatic cabinet of Leonid Soedermann.
