Peter I gold Novodel 2 Ducats (Double Chervonets) 1714 AU58 NGC, Krasny mint, KM-NF4, Fr-86, Bit-H19 (R2), Sev-39 (RR), Diakov-446 (R3). Edge not visible in holder. Obv. Laureate bust of Peter I right, in military dress. Rev. Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle with date. A soundly struck example which closely adheres to its near-Mint certification, a handful of stray contact marks, if anything, appearing entirely superficial and yet doing little to hamper the coin's overall appeal. Its visual allure is accentuated yet further by an abundance of remaining luster and a light decoration of tangerine tone that graces the surfaces. Probably struck during the reign of Catherine II, as the Ducat denomination was no longer in use at the time. Although listed on the holder as an original (KM150), the dies for this piece are much more in conformance with those illustrated for the Novodel by Diakov, and those used for the previous lot in this sale. An interesting and very rare issue worthy of the utmost bidder consideration.
