MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV quarter-stater (11mm, 2.11 gm, 9h). NGC Choice VF 5/5 - 3/5. Late lifetime-early posthumous issue of Amphipolis, ca. 325-319 BC. Head of Athena right, hair in three tight corkscrew curls, a fourth over left shoulder, wearing necklace and triple-crested Corinthian helmet with long divergent crest ends pushed back on head, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / AΛEΞAN/ΔPOY, horizontal bow and club left, horizontal thunderbolt above. Price 165. Nicely centered on mellow flan.
