Ancients
ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 510/500-480 BC. AR tetradrachm (23mm, 17.00 gm, 4h). NGC Choice Fine 5/5 - 3/5, Full Crest. Head of Athena right, wearing crested Attic helmet with undecorated bowl / A⊕Ε (retrograde), owl standing right with closed wings, head facing; branch with five leaves behind, all within incuse square. HGC 4, 1589 (ca. 500/490-485/480 BC). Starr Group I. Seltman Group L, 339. Interesting variety with archaic theta form of a wheel with four spokes and unusual branch from the typical two leaves and one berry. This also appears to be the only die in the series where the city ethnic reads upward instead of downward.
