Great Britain
Kings of All England. Edward the Confessor (1042-1066) Penny ND (1050-1053) MS63 NGC, Chester mint, Leofnoth as moneyer, Expanding Cross type, S-1176, N-820, SCBI XLV-Unl., EMC-1005.0295 (same obverse die). 1.63gm. +EDǷ | • RD REX, diademed bust of Edward left, scepter held before / +L• EOFNOÐ ON LEIC:, voided short cross with expanding limbs joined as the base by two circles. A beautiful presentation of this lesser-seen Edwardian type, absolutely struck to a standard that blows past its already impressive assigned grade. The flan is essentially perfectly round, expressing total clarity to the legends and design features with a punctuating peach-gold tone. A rarer mint and moneyer combination as well, appearing in recent years only for his Pyramids type coinage.
