French Colony copper-nickel Specimen Piefort Essai Franc 1897 SP65 PCGS, Paris mint, KM-PE2, VG-4311, Lec-9. A laudably fine example of this rare pattern composed of maillechort, an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc, and issued as a proposed type for this small French Caribbean island territory. Both faces show clear signs of having been struck from well-polished dies, the obverse showing a preponderance of cupric hues, the reverse being closer to an icy white.
