Charles & Johanna (1516-1556) gold 2 Ducados ND (c. 1520) C-A AU58 NGC, Zaragoza mint, Cal-19, Cay-3162. 6.93gm. +IOAnA: ЄT: KARLOS: DЄI GRACIA: RAR: A (double annulet stops), crowned confronted busts of Johanna and Charles, C in between / +IOANA ET KAROLVS REX ARAGON, crowned Aragonese shield flanked by C-A. By all indications a seldom encountered type, and one that proves intriguing for its use of fully gothic script in the obverse legends, while a more 'plain' style Latin font appears on the reverse. Presently one of only 3 certified by NGC, and a very handsome piece.
