PAHANG: Bendahara Sewa Raja Tun Ali, 1806-1857, tin tampang (26.36g), AH1264, SS-7, "tin hat money", plinth base neatly decorated with flower & vine design // Jawi text saraf fi pahang sanah 1264 with the date retrograde, naturally prepared with a hole, F-VF, ex Charles Opitz Collection. These are variously known as a Tampang, Tin Hat, Pyramid or Pagoda money, although the latter two names are more common in Perak. They are an early form of currency with a value that was calculated against the amount of tin by weight which could be exchanged for one Spanish Silver dollar. There are a number of views as to when the Tampang first became recognized as money, but they were likely first used in the 17th century and made until the late 19th century. The mangosteen calyx mint mark appears atop the crown of the pyramid. Valued at 1/100 of a Spanish/Mexican 8 reales.

Estimate: 75-100 USD
