OTTOMAN EMPIRE: Mehmet II, 1451-1481, AV sultani (3.55g), Kostantiniye, AH883, A-1306, wonderful bold strike, choice EF-AU, R, ex Ahmed Sultan Collection. Mehmet II struck the first Ottoman gold coinage in the year AH882, with 883 the largest production. The production was superb, but the quality quickly diminished under the successive sultans.
