DURRANI: Anonymous, 1772, AR rupee (10.98g), Balkh, AH1186, A-3096J, struck by the local khan at Balkh (we have not determined his name), during the uncertain time upon the death of the Durrani Ahmad Shah in 1772, during the successor conflict between Taymur and Sulayman, new discovery and unique, VF, RRRR. The second part of the couplet includes "bande dar gah muhammad-e bahadur", reference to the last Janid king Abu 'l-Ghazi Muhammad Bahadur, apparently recognized either as suzerain or for potential protection against any future Durrani ruler or some undetermined external invader.
