Israel. Lot of 8 Banknotes, 1955 & 1984. Pinchas Bar-Zeev wrote: "The Bank of Israel, Israel's State bank, was established on 1st December 1954, over 6½ years after independence. From that moment onward, the authorization to print and issue money was transferred from Bank Leumi Le-Israel B.M. to the newly formed Bank of Israel. Typical Israeli landscapes were chosen as the motif of the new notes. However, due to extreme unpopularity with the public, who especially disliked the 'psychedelic' design of the reverse guilloches, these were soon replaced with a new series." Lot includes two 500 Prutot, featuring ruins of ancient synagogue at Bir'am, Galilee: PMG AU-55 EPQ and PMG VF-30 EPQ; 1 Lira, featuring a view of Upper Galilee and Jordan River, PMG EF-40 EPQ; two 10 Lirot, featuring a view of the Jezreel Valley, with black serial numbers, both PMG-65 EPQ; and 50 Lirot, featuring the road to Jerusalem, with black serial numbers, PMG AU-55. Also includes these high value notes issued in 1984: 5,000 Sheqalim, featuring Levi Eshkol and water pipe & meadows, PMG Choice Uncirculated-64; and 10,000 Sheqalim, featuring Golda Meir and scene of Golda Meir crowded by Soviet Jews outside Moscow synagogue in 1948, PMG Gem Uncirculated-65 EPQ.
