Lt-Col. Barzillai Lowsley (1840-1905), coin and token collector, served with the Royal Engineers in Barbados and Ceylon. The family seat was at Hampstead Norreys, near Newbury; the village's Norman parish church is Grade I listed and remains standing to this day.
