Ex Baldwin's vault
The Johnson medal is a scarce early Royal Mint production for Metcalfe, very much the protégé of Sir Robert Johnson, Deputy Master, whose father was the subject of the medal. As a student at Oxford Arthur Henry Johnson had played football for the university in the team that won the FA Cup in 1874; his later academic work is well documented as is his wider involvement in the University, beyond All Souls. He also wrote the 5 volume History of the Worshipful Company of the Drapers of London (1914).
