Ex Baldwin's vault
The Eastern Counties Railway was incorporated in 1836 and initially intended to link London with Colchester and Ipswich. From the start of its construction in 1837 it had engineering and financial difficulties. The check's HL monogram is for Horatio Love, Chairman 1856-62, then first Chairman of the Great Eastern Railway, 1862-63, with which it merged.
