VICTOR ANTONINI AVG Victory hurrying right, holding wreath in her right hand and palm frond in her left. BMC 30. Calicó 3038. Cohen 288. RIC 154. Rare. A beautiful example struck on a very broad flan. Nearly extremely fine.

From the collection of an Armenian businessman, Leu 7, 24 October 2020, 1646, ex Roma 6, 29 September 2013, and from the Archer M. Huntington Collection, Part I, Numismatica Ars Classica 67, 17 October 2012, 198, HSA 22110.

The reverse of this beautiful aureus, which was struck shortly after the accession of Elagabalus to the throne in 218, praises the victory of the 'Antonines', as the juvenile emperor was portrayed to the Roman public as a son of Caracalla and hence restorer of the Severan dynasty after the interlude of the usurper Macrinus.
