ATTICA. Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.58 g, 11 h), Polykles and Timarchides, magistrates, 149/8. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet adorned with Pegasos. Rev. A-ΘE / ΠΟ/ΛY - TI Owl standing facing on Amphora, transverse palm frond in background; to right, monogram; on amphora, AP (?); all within laurel wreath. Thompson - (cf. 108b: ME on amphora). A bright and attractive piece of lovely early style. Minor flan faults on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
