PONTOS. Uncertain. Time of Mithradates VI, circa 130-100 BC. AE (Bronze, 32 mm, 20.26 g). Male head to left, wearing satrapal cap; on head, countermark: facing gorgoneion within circular incuse. Rev. Eight-rayed star; in field, bow; between rays, monogram. SNG BM Black Sea 972 var. (differing monogram and countermarks). SNG Stancomb 647 var. (differing monogram and no countermark). An interesting example with a lovely countermark. Minor weakness on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
