ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Pashiz (Bronze, 16 mm, 0.85 g, 9 h), Arab Sasanian type, without mint and date, circa AH 60s-80s = AD 680s-700s. Crowned and draped Sasanian-style bust to right, AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, 'Baraka' ('Benediction', respectively 'Blessing' in Arabic). Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; to left, 'bism Allah' ('in the name of God' in Kufic); to right, 'Rabbi' ('my Lord' in Kufic). Gyselen 66. Somewhat rough, otherwise, about very fine.
