ISLAMIC, Umayyad Caliphate. Uncertain period (pre-reform), AH 41-77 / AD 661-697. Pashiz (Bronze, 20 mm, 1.27 g, 9 h), probably citing Umar ibn Ubayd Allah, ST (Stakhr), circa AH 67-72 = AD 667/8-691/2. Crowned and draped Sasanian-style bust to right; behind head, 'AFZUT GDH ('may his kingship increase' in Pahlawi); before head, WML ('Umar' in Pahlawi); in outer margin, 'GWŠN'. Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; in field to left, PST'N ('confidence' in Pahlawi); in field to right, ST (name of the mint in Pahlawi). Malek, Arab-Sasanian, 1442. Somewhat rough and with a plugged hole, otherwise, about very fine.
