ISLAMIC, Caucasus (Pre-Seljuq). Shaddadid. al-Fadl I ibn Muhammad, AH 375-422 / AD 985-1031. Dirham (Silver, 18 mm, 2.17 g, 8 h), Janza (Ganja in Azerbaijan), AH 400 = AD 1009/10. Album 1491. An attractive example. Some doubling, otherwise, about extremely fine.
The Shaddadids were a Muslim dynasty who ruled in Armenia and Arran from 951 to circa 1174. Their dirhams circulated locally in today's Armenia and Azerbaijan throughout the 11th century.
