Greece, Lokris, Opus, Hemidrachm - VERY RARE

Very rare Lokrian hemidrachm, with a plume helmet placed under Ajax's feet, and a wreathed Persephone's head with horns. The portrait of Persephone presented here is an imitation of the Syracusan original by Euainetos. On the other hand, Ajax was a Greek mythological hero, son of Oileus, king of Lokris, called 'lesser' or 'Lokrian' to distinguish him from Ajax the Great. He was even mentioned in the Odyssey and Aeneid by Virgil.

Bardzo rzadka hemidrachma lokryjska, z hełmem z pióropuszem umieszczonym pod nogami Ajaksa oraz z głową Persefony z wieńcem, z rogami. Przedstawiony tu portret Persefony to imitacja syrakuzańskiego pierwowzoru autorstwa Euainetosa. Z kolei Ajaks lokryjski był greckim mitologicznym bohaterem, synem Oileusa, króla Lokris, nazywanym „mniejszym" lub „lokryjskim", aby odróżnić go od Ajaksa Wielkiego. Wspomniany został nawet w Odysei i Eneidzie Wergiliusza.
