Aemilian was a Roman emperor from the summer of 253 to October 253. He was born in the Roman, African province of Mauritania around 210. He was a brave soldier and a capable commander. He achieved many military successes and as a reward became viceroy of Moesia. As governor, he won the favor of the people and his four legions, who made him emperor in the early summer of 253. In order to legalize power, the new emperor usurper attacked the legitimate emperors Trebonianus and his son Volusianus in Italy under Interamna. However, the battle did not take place because the army killed the rightful rulers. The Senate immediately awarded Emilian all the titles. At that time, the armies of the new claimant to the throne of Valerianus entered Italy. Aemilian wanted to attack him at Spolecium, but before the battle he died at the hands of his own soldiers.
