ITALY. Venice. Doge Francesco Morosini's Victory Over the Turks Silver Medal, 1687. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield.
42 mm. Voltolina-1057. By G. Hautsch of Nurnberg. An impressive silver medal struck to commemorate the Venetian victories over the Turks in Athens, Castel Tornese, Castelnovo, Corinth, Lepanto, Mistra, and Patras. The obverse features angel-supported cartouches of Morosini as well as his allies General Otto Wilhelm von Konigsmark and Governor Girolamo Corner of Dalmatia. The legend: "TERROR / TURCARUM" to left and right. The reverse displays six oval images of the captured fortresses along with the date 1687 below. Problem free surfaces displaying multi-color iridescence over a base of lustrous pearl gray.
