Jupiter Auxurus was the protector of Anxur (modern Terracina), a town in Latium on the via Appia about 62 miles distant from Rome, from where the moneyer's family originated. A magnificent temple constructed in opus incertum, an unusual Roman building technique whereby irregularly shaped and randomly placed uncut stones are set into concrete, was his sanctuary there.
