Maurice Tiberius, 582-602. Solidus (Gold, 22 mm, 4.44 g, 7 h), Constantinople, E = 5th officina, 583/4-602. dcN mAVRC TIb P P AVI Draped and cuirassed bust of Maurice facing, wearing diademed and plumed helmet and holding globus cruciger in his right hand. Rev. VICTORI-A AVCC / E/CONOB Angel standing facing, holding long rho-topped cross in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left. DOC 5e. MIBE 6. SB 478. Central striking weakness, obverse die-break, otherwise, very fine.

From the Trausnitz Collection, ex Künker FPL 176, August 2005, 119.

There has been some argument that the broad-faced solidi of Maurice, such as this coin, were struck at Antioch (cf. DOC 149 and SB 524). However, there is no real reason for such an attribution, so here we attribute the coin to Constantinople.
