Held on the 12th December, the 1911 Delhi Durbar was the third and final of the Indian imperial-style mass assemblies marking the accession of an Emperor or Empress of India to be organised by the British at Coronation Park, Delhi, and the only one that a sovereign, George V, attended. One of the 30,000 silver pieces struck, this medal was likely one of the 26,800 that were awarded to civic dignitaries, government officials, and officers and men of the British and Indian armies.
