Memorial Volume for Charles Wiener
Alvin, Frédéric. CHARLES WIENER: GRAVEUR EN MÉDAILLES ET SON OEUVRE. Bruxelles: Gobbaerts, 1888. 8vo, contemporary dark gray cloth; red spine label, gilt. Original albumen photographic print affixed as frontispiece opposite title; (2), 46 pages; catalogues 100 coins and medals designed by Wiener. Near fine. Charles Wiener (1832–1888) was the brother of Jacques and Leopold Wiener, all three of whom achieved success as medalists. In addition to his medallic work, Charles worked at both the Royal Mint in London and at the Portuguese mint in Lisbon. The present memorial volume, with an original albumen photographic plate of Wiener, reprints text from the Revue belge de numismatique. Issued in only 100 copies, it is today rather rare.
