Biography & Catalogue of Ferdinand de Saint-Urbain
Lepage, Henri, with M. Beaupré. FERDINAND DE SAINT-URBAIN, PAR HENRI LEPAGE, AVEC UN CATALOGUE DE L'OEUVRE DE CET ARTISTE PAR M. BEAUPRÉ. Nancy: Lucien Wiener, 1867. 8vo, contemporary brown quarter morocco with mottled sides; spine with five raised bands, ruled, lettered and decorated in gilt; marbled endpapers. (4), 178, (2) pages. Laid in is an offprint of Charles Laprevote's "Note sur quelques médailles gravées par Ferdinand de Saint-Urbain." Some minor marginal discoloration; very good or better. Ferdinand de Saint-Urbain (1658–1738) achieved fame for his medallic works conducted for the Popes Innocent XI, Alexander VIII and Innocent XII, as well as for the engraving he did for coins and medals of Lorraine. The present volume is rather rare, and remains one of the only substantial treatments of this French engraver and medallist. Ex Rollin & Feuardent Library (Weil sale of 26 novembre 1993, part of lot 257).
