The principal work and both supplements, bound in one volume. 4to, contemporary tan half calf with mottled sides; spine with five raised bands, ruled in gilt; red and black spine labels, gilt; decorative endpapers; top page edges gilt; silk marker. vii, (1), 360 + vii, (1), 81, (1) + vi, 168 pages. Second Nachtrag printed in red and black. Inscribed on the opening blank to Herbert A. Grueber by Prince Louis of Battenberg, the son of the author, in November 1892. Presentation letter from Prince Louis to Grueber laid in. Binding rubbed. Very good or better. The very scarce original edition, complete with both supplements. The letter is written on the embossed letterhead of the Inspector General of Fortifications, Horse Guards, War Office, Whitehall S.W. and is entirely in Prince Louis's hand: "Dear Mr. Grueber," it reads. "Will you kindly accept these books from me? They are the catalogues of my late father's principal coin collections and may have some interest for you. Very sincerely yours, (signed) Louis Battenberg." As a postscript, he adds: "I am now a fixture in town, as I have joined this office as Naval Advisor." Clain-Stefanelli 9379: "An excellent collection of medals and coins from the 13th to the 19th century."
