Scarce Vlack Plates of Washington Pieces
Vlack, Robert A. 1783 WASHINGTON MILITARY & DRAPED BUST TOKENS. Four photographic plates, all with the imprint "R.A. Vlack / March 1, 1961," bound with 10 leaves of introductory text, the first nine leaves dated March 1961 and the last dated December 1, 1966. 4to, later green cloth, gilt. Fine. Scarce photographic plates by Bob Vlack. The first plate depicts five Washington Military Bust obverses and four reverses; the second illustrates obverses 6–10 and reverses E–G; the third plate depicts five Washington Draped Bust obverses and three reverses, and the print of Plate 4 illustrates both sides of three Washington Draped Bust, Button on Toga pieces. Richard Margolis acquired these from John J. Ford in 1976, and had the binding made in 1988. The photos probably dated to around 1976, as Ford owned Vlack's negatives. As they are rarely encountered, it would seem that Ford did not make many such prints.
