Crown 4to, slightly later red half morocco with marbled sides; spine with five raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt; original printed paper or card covers bound in. Binding a bit rubbed and scuffed, but attractive; some spotting. Very good or better. A lovely volume, from the Leonard Forrer Library, bringing together seven early plated sales of ancient coins, four of them priced and named. The Weber sale is of considerable importance. Clain-Stefanelli 3707. Grierson 288. Spring 757 (erroneously calling it the "first British ancient coin catalogue to contain photographic plates, an honor that, so far as we know, belongs to the firm's February 13, 1878 sale). The Hobart Smith sale is Spring 769. Whitehead is Spring 773. The "Distinguished Artist" of the 1899 sale was Friedrich von Schiller. Clain-Stefanneli 1957. Greirson 281. Spring 777. The Bizot sale was especially notable for Roman portraiture. Clain-Stefanelli 4073. Grierson 280. Spring 783. Charvet is Spring 578. The Brüder Egger sale is Spring 149. Ex Leonard Forrer Library, with his label (Glendining & Co., April 30, 1954, part of lot 190).
