British Sale Catalogues, 1915–1921, Priced & Named
Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge. THREE BOUND VOLUMES OF SALE CATALOGUES, 1915–1921. [Online description truncated: for the full description, listing all sales present, see the printed or PDF cataloge.] Thirty-nine catalogues, bound in three volumes. Crown 4to, slightly later matching red half morocco; spines with five raised bands, ruled and lettered in gilt; original printed paper or card covers usually but not always bound in. Bindings with minor signs of wear, but still attractive; occasional minor spotting. Generally near fine. More nicely bound volumes from the Leonard Forrer Library, bringing together 39 Sotheby's auction catalogues issued between 1915 and 1921, nearly all of them priced and named, and with 15 of them including photographically printed plates. Significant sales here present include Thomas Bliss's extensive collection of (primarily) British coins; Alexander Mann's wide-ranging sale of ancient and British coins; W.M. Maish's and Henry W. Thorburn's British coins; both parts of the Marquess of Milford Haven's extraordinary collection of Naval medals (the second part with plates); W. Talbot Ready's British, Anglo-Saxon, Norman & English coins; R.C. Fisher's exceptional collection of Renaissance medals; and Raymond Carlyon-Britton's collection of hammered English silver coins from Edward I to Charles II. A rare opportunity. Ex Leonard Forrer Library (Glendining & Co., April 30, 1954, part of lot 192).
