The S.A.E.N.F. Bulletin
Société Américaine pour l'Étude de la Numismatique Française. BULLETIN. Nos. 1–105 (1965–1996), bound in four volumes. 4to, later matching brown cloth, gilt; original paper or card covers bound in where issued. Approximately 1000 pages. Loose copies of Nos. 105, 108, 113 and 115 are included. Generally fine. An important, if insufficiently well-known, English-language resource for French numismatics. Rarely encountered, the Bulletin published much information that simply wasn't available elsewhere. The first issue is dated June 1, 1965, and is a single typewritten sheet distributed by Pierre Palmentier, the founder; accompanying this was a single-page membership roster listing all of nine members-including our consignor, Richard Margolis. No. 38 was the first to feature card covers, and the first to include a Volume number (in this case, IV). The earlier issues were reproduced via photocopy, making it difficult to say with any certainly that a copy is original or a later copy-but given's Margolis's status as a charter member, we feel confident in calling these originals though they were clearly produced in a variety of photomechanical ways. Two issues were accidentally numbered 41, with the second coming to be known as 41A afterwards. The present set is essentially complete, though some later issues are not present (there were at least 115 issues published).
