Manuscript Record of the Bernard Southgate Collection
Southgate, Bernard. BOUND MANUSCRIPT RECORD OF THE COLLECTION OF FRENCH COINS FORMED BY BERNARD SOUTHGATE AND SOLD BY HIM TO RICHARD MARGOLIS IN 1973. Small [20 by 13 cm] volume, green quarter morocco; spine lettered in gilt. 146 ruled pages on which Southgate's collection has been carefully listed, with additional manuscript annotations by Richard Margolis. Fine. Unique. According to Richard Margolis's handwritten note on the opening blank, "This was the first collection formed by Bernard Southgate, & which I purchased in June 1973. Southgate stopped collecting for many years, used the money I paid for his collection towards his purchase of family lands in Southgate, Kentucky, went to law school, & subsequently made a lot of money in real estate. He began to collect again, & formed a second, larger collection which was sold through CGB in Paris."
