Conbrouse on the Capetiens
Conbrouse [as Combrouse], Guillaume. MAISON DE FRANCE. CHOIX DE MONNAIES ET MÉDAILLES DES ROIS CAPÉTIENS, VALOIS ET BOURBONS, COMPOSANT LA SUITE ICONOGRAPHIQUE DE M. G. COMBROUSE. Paris: H. Fournier, 1845. Folio [33 by 27 cm], contemporary red quarter calf; spine ruled and lettered in gilt; marbled endpapers. 55, (1), pages; size chart; table. Inscribed by the author to Napoléon de Nompère de Champagny, and signed [Conbrouse] by him on the title. Occasional penciled annotations by Richard Margolis. Boards a bit bowed; very good or better. A rare work, acquired by Margolis from Spink in 1984. Engel & Serrure call for two plates depicting the signatures of "des principaux numismatistes français," but such plates do not appear to be found in the few other copies that have been offered in recent years, nor are they found here. Engel & Serrure 1692: "Cet ouvrage est un catalogue spécial de quelques pièces, monnaies, jetons, médailles, non seulement des rois de la 3º race, mais des princes de la maison royale qui n'ont pas régné..."
